Sports

Sports are organized physical activities. Most of these activities require some type of skill and consist of extensive competition. Many involve The movement of both people, animals and involve objects such as a ball, and things of that nature. Sports have an objective or point to them. For example in basketball the objective is to accurately shoot the basket ball into the basket. A very simple task that actually requires extreme skill in this area. In most sports, two teams play against one another and compete, with one team being the loser and another the winner. This activity is usually referred to as a game. Many of these games are organized and referred by an umpire to keep everything fair. Sports are conducted on a recreational and professional level.

Recreational sports involve pewee leagues for children, sports in schools, sports in universities, sports for intramural leagues, and sports played between friends. Pewee league sports consist of football, baseball, soccer, swimming, basketball, etc.. Many of these sports are used as tools to keep children busy after school, on weekends, and during breaks from school. Children that play league sports from the age seven and above are usually very healthy and focused. This type of league usually accepts children from the average ages of seven through sixteen. Many times these sports are conducted throughout the community and are separate from sports in school. These sports leagues are very beneficial for the children, family, and community as a whole. Families get and opportunity to bond with one another in an arena where children can be themselves, and parents can still be involved from a distance. Children and teams can get sponsored by local business and turn the entire experience into both a sport and a marketing opportunity. For example, in little league baseball, business will sponsor a team and in return receive advertisement while helping out the community at the same time. For businesses it is a win/win situation and for the sports teams it is an opportunity to exist and grow so that children will have positive outlets. Child sports has been known to reduce the risk of negative, behavior. The only drawback with children sports is that it costs money that comes from the parents pocket, which can be hard for some families to afford. The flip side to this is that making this investment is clear support and encouragement for children. Additionally, fund raising exists for those that might need some extra cash.

Sports conducted in school are a great way for students to show school spirit. These sports often are more competitive than children pewee sports, but offer greater benefits. Students gain an appreciation for the school they are attending when they are playing a sport for them which increases the chances that students will stay in school and focus on their grades. This reduces the overall drop out rate for the school itself and the institution. Studies have shown that students that engage in sports or some other activity are more likely to succeed in other areas of life. School sports can only be participated in if a student keeps up their grades and behavior within school, which adds validity to this fact. Additionally, school sports often lead to scholarships and financial aid for college. Many universities like to see that a student engages in extracurricular activities, especially sports. Sports teach students hard work, determination, the necessity for preparation, and how to work with others. These skills along with many others are needed to succeed in a collegiate setting. While on scholarship, many students get the chance to play University sports and increase their skill set. The good thing about University sports is that students again, are required to keep a certain grade point average in order to participate, and increase their rate of staying and finishing college. This also gives students a chance to make friends and connections that they will use for the rest of their lives. University sports can often lead to professional careers in sports, and other arenas. Many employers appreciate students that have participated in extra curricular activities. Many of those hired right after college, were able to balance both school and extra curricular activities in school.

Professional sports involve stricter rules and regulations, and even harder skill sets. Those chosen to play sports professional are often the cream of the crop, and have a love for the game that overpowers anything else. A professional sports player is employed to play which every sport they play, and are expected to win. Professional sports pay very well, and require that the player be fully dedicated to it. Additionally the following of professional sports is very popular among most nations, the United States especially. In the United States people worship professional players and but their jerseys, shoes, clothes, pictures, and attend games. This industry is more of a business in which professional sports players become national and local celebrities. The pressure placed on the player in this arena is ridiculous, and often requires them to get an agent, publicist, manager, and or lawyer. These players become more celebrities because people follow them so strongly. In the United States professional sports are highly respected and provide many states and communities with a lot of money and funds to help there cities grow.
Sports can also be considered on an individual basis rather than team based. For example, golf is a sport where one player plays for themselves and competes against another person. Some other sports that are singe player sports are; swimming, gymnastics, tennis, and more. Now these sports can also be played in conjunction with a team, but are mostly based on the individual. Sports are a unique subject to write about because they can be conducted on a recreational basis just for fun, and or to pass time. Additionally, they can be conducted professionally which is how some people earn a living. Globally sports has transformed into a phenomenon and every year the entire world participates in the Olympics. The Olympics are games that incorporate the skills of a certain sport from all over the world with trophies and world title standings. For many athletes this is how they gain exposure and or get to compete on a global level rather then in their country or community. Sports in this fashion and all others has taken over, and become very important to people everywhere.
